Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, on Monday visited Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State to commiserate with victims and families affected by the recent wave of violent attacks in the region. Obi, who traveled from Abuja to Jos before proceeding to Bokkos, described the killings as “saddening and utterly unacceptable.”

During his visit, Obi met with displaced persons, including children and families who lost loved ones in the attacks. He expressed his condolences to Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the people of Plateau State, emphasizing the need for urgent national attention to the ongoing insecurity.

“Nigerians should not be killed or forced to flee their homes when we are not at war,” Obi stated. “Every life is precious, and no Nigerian, regardless of where they live, should have to live in fear or uncertainty.”

In a show of solidarity, Obi announced a donation of N7.5 million to support displaced children and victims in the affected communities. The funds, he said, would go toward providing essential facilities, educational support, and other ongoing needs in the internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.

He also commended the Obidient Movement for earlier efforts, including the construction of a borehole to supply clean water to the IDP camp and surrounding community.

“Now, more than ever, leadership and compassion are essential,” Obi said, pledging continued support for efforts that promote peace, justice, and healing across Nigeria.

He concluded his visit with a call for national unity and a renewed commitment to building a safer, more compassionate country: “A new Nigeria is POssible.”
