Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as a suitable successor for the 2027 Lagos governorship race, describing him as capable, experienced, and well-prepared for leadership.
Speaking on Monday after a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, the governor said his working relationship with Hamzat over the past seven years had demonstrated strong qualities of integrity, loyalty, and commitment.
The endorsement came after Hamzat formally declared his intention to contest the governorship before members of the State Executive Council and leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu noted that stakeholders at the meeting unanimously agreed that the deputy governor possesses the experience and readiness required to lead the state. He added that Hamzat’s deep understanding of governance in Lagos makes him a strong candidate.
A viral video from the meeting captured the governor praying for Hamzat and raising his hand in a symbolic show of support, drawing applause from those in attendance.
