Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo (popularly known as Sunday Igboho), has alleged that some politicians are behind the abduction of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, vowing to reveal their identities if the attacks continue.

Speaking in a video shared on Wednesday by Wisdom TV during a meeting with newly elected executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by Akinteye Babatunde, Igboho claimed that certain political actors were sponsoring kidnappers operating in the state.

He also said he had volunteered to assist in rescuing the abducted pupils but was allegedly stopped by the Oyo State Government, which reportedly warned that the kidnappers had threatened to kill the victims if any forceful intervention was attempted.

According to him, he knows those behind the criminal activities and warned that he would expose them if the attacks persist, alleging that they provide money and weapons to the kidnappers.

Igboho further claimed that although he mobilised a security network known as “Iru Ekun,” and had received federal approval, the state government discouraged its deployment in the rescue operation.

He questioned the handling of the situation, insisting that coordinated local action could flush out the criminals from forest hideouts.

The activist also linked the insecurity challenges to wider political interests, alleging attempts to destabilise the administration of President Bola Tinubu, while comparing the situation to past political disruptions in the country.

His comments come days after armed men abducted dozens of pupils and teachers during attacks on schools in Oriire LGA on May 15, an incident that sparked national concern and protests.
