The Kwara State Government has announced the release of 176 people abducted during the February 3, 2026, attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.
The development was disclosed on Wednesday in a statement posted on the state’s official Facebook page, nearly six months after the mass abduction.
Expressing gratitude over the victims’ freedom, the government commended President Bola Tinubu, security agencies and all those involved in securing their release.
“Alhamdulillah, and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the security forces and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful,” the statement read.
The victims were kidnapped when suspected Boko Haram-linked insurgents stormed the rural communities on motorcycles in a coordinated attack that lasted several hours.
The assault, regarded as one of the deadliest in Kwara State’s history, reportedly claimed more than 200 lives, injured several residents, destroyed homes and businesses, and displaced many families.
Local vigilantes who attempted to repel the attackers were reportedly overpowered, with some allegedly trapped and burnt inside their office during the invasion.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release or whether any ransom was paid. Further details are expected.
