Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has explained why he declined an invitation by the Nigeria Police Force to appear in Lagos over allegations he made against Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Moshood Jimoh.
Speaking during an interview on Arise 360 News on Wednesday, VDM described the invitation as “malicious,” arguing that he resides in Abuja, where the Force Headquarters is located, and should therefore be allowed to respond to investigators there.
According to him, there was no justification for requiring him to travel to Lagos when the police headquarters is in the Federal Capital Territory.
“I think the invitation is malicious because I live in Abuja,” he said, maintaining that he could answer any questions from the police in the capital.
VDM, who had accused AIG Jimoh of compromising a murder investigation by allegedly implicating an innocent person, insisted he had evidence to support his claims.
He further alleged that the invitation was an attempt to confiscate his mobile phone and erase evidence relating to the accusations he had made, adding that his confidence in the police had been undermined.
“I have all the evidence,” he said, while expressing doubts about investigations currently being handled by the senior police officer.
The comments followed confirmation by the Nigeria Police Force that VDM had been invited by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, to substantiate his allegations against AIG Jimoh.
The police also disclosed that AIG Jimoh had been summoned as part of its internal accountability process. It noted that the criminal case referenced by the activist is already before a competent court and cannot be resolved through media debates.
The Force urged VDM to honour the invitation and allow both the investigative and judicial processes to proceed, warning that anyone found to have made false allegations against police officers could face legal consequences
