Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has completed a surprise move to Turkish club Bursaspor after rejecting a contract extension from Scottish champions Celtic.
The Nigerian international signed a three-year contract with the newly promoted Turkish side, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2029. Iheanacho joined Bursaspor as a free agent after his deal with Celtic expired on June 30.
Although Celtic offered him fresh terms after deciding not to activate the automatic one-year extension in his previous contract, the striker opted for a move to Turkey, where Bursaspor reportedly presented a more attractive financial package.
Bursaspor confirmed the signing on Friday with a creative Odyssey-themed video posted across the club’s social media platforms. Iheanacho will now play in the same league as fellow Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, who features for Galatasaray.
The move adds another chapter to Iheanacho’s career, having previously played for Manchester City, Leicester City, Sevilla and Celtic.
Despite struggling with injuries during the 2025/26 season, the 29-year-old scored nine goals in 24 appearances for Celtic. He finished the campaign strongly, netting five goals in his final eight matches, all as a substitute, including late match-winning strikes against Motherwell, Dundee and Hibernian as Celtic retained the Scottish Premiership title.
He also converted a stoppage-time penalty in a 3-2 victory over Motherwell and found the net in Celtic’s 3-1 Scottish Cup final win over Dunfermline Athletic, helping the club secure a domestic double.
Bursaspor, who won the 2025/26 TFF 2. Lig title to earn promotion, are strengthening their squad with experienced additions as they target another promotion and a return to the Turkish top flight. Iheanacho’s arrival is seen as a major statement of the club’s ambitions ahead of the new season.
