Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has mourned the death of Mr Emmanuel Ugboaja, describing him as a committed patriot and passionate advocate for Nigerian workers.
Obi, in a condolence message, said he first met Ugboaja during his time in the Labour Party and subsequently crossed paths with him on several occasions.
He described the deceased as a man deeply committed to the welfare of workers, justice and fairness, as well as the development of a better Nigeria.
According to Obi, Ugboaja remained concerned about the challenges confronting ordinary Nigerians and consistently advocated for the dignity and welfare of workers.
“I have lost a friend, a committed patriot, and a passionate advocate for the interests of workers and the building of a better Nigeria, Mr. Emmanuel Ugboaja,” Obi said.
He noted that Ugboaja was not one to remain indifferent to the difficulties faced by Nigerians, saying the late labour advocate spoke with conviction and demonstrated genuine concern for people, particularly workers whose contributions to national development were often overlooked.
Obi said Ugboaja’s death was a painful loss to his family, friends, colleagues and others who shared his ideals.
“Nigeria has lost a man who believed in the possibility of a better country and was willing to contribute to making that possibility a reality,” he said.
The former presidential candidate extended his condolences to Ugboaja’s family, friends, colleagues and all those mourning his death.
He prayed that God would grant the deceased’s loved ones the strength to bear the loss and grant Ugboaja eternal rest.
“May his soul rest in peace,” Obi added.
