NiMet forecasts three days of rain, sunshine across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of rainfall, thunderstorms and sunshine across Nigeria from Saturday to Monday, urging residents to take necessary precautions against severe weather conditions.

In its latest weather outlook, the agency predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds across the northern states on Saturday morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected in parts of Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna.

Later in the day, moderate thunderstorms and rainfall are expected in parts of Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba states.

For the North-Central region, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms and moderate rainfall over parts of Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory. By afternoon and evening, rainfall is expected to spread to Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the FCT.

In the southern region, moderate rainfall is expected in the morning over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos and Bayelsa states, with more widespread rainfall anticipated later in the day.

On Sunday, the agency predicted morning thunderstorms over parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa and Taraba, while moderate rainfall is expected later across Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba and Adamawa states.

The North-Central region is expected to experience morning thunderstorms in parts of Niger, Kwara and the FCT before rainfall extends across the region later in the day.

In the South, light rainfall is forecast for Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos and Rivers states in the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected across the region in the afternoon and evening.

For Monday, NiMet forecast partly cloudy skies over the northern states, with chances of light morning rainfall in Bauchi, Jigawa and Yobe, followed by moderate thunderstorms later in the day.

The North-Central region is expected to witness sunny conditions with patches of clouds in the morning before thunderstorms develop across the region later in the day.

The South is likely to experience cloudy weather with light morning rainfall in parts of Edo, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states, while moderate rainfall is expected across the region by afternoon and evening.

NiMet advised residents to secure loose objects as strong winds may accompany thunderstorms. It also warned that persistent rainfall in coastal areas could trigger flash floods, urging motorists to avoid driving through flooded roads and to exercise caution during heavy downpours.

The agency further advised residents to disconnect electrical appliances during storms, avoid sheltering under tall trees and remain updated through official weather forecasts. Airline operators were also urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective flight planning.
