President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, on his election as Chairman of the United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee on Budget and Administration.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, President Tinubu described the election as a significant achievement for Nigeria and a testament to Ambassador Ibrahim’s vast experience in public service, diplomacy, business leadership, and governance.

The President noted that Ibrahim’s emergence comes at a crucial period for the United Nations as it undertakes major financial realignments and institutional reforms aimed at enhancing accountability, effectiveness, and long-term sustainability.

According to President Tinubu, the ambassador’s election shortly after assuming office at the UN underscores the confidence the international community has in his abilities and leadership qualities.

He highlighted Ibrahim’s experience as a member of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Budget and Appropriation and Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Relations, noting that these roles have equipped him with the expertise needed to lead the important committee.

The President also praised Ibrahim’s accomplishments in both the private and public sectors, describing him as a respected legal scholar with extensive knowledge of international taxation and business administration.

“Your previous roles in the private sector and public service distinctly equip you to provide the steady, strategic leadership required for this important responsibility,” Tinubu said.

He added that Ibrahim’s understanding of global governance and financial systems would bring valuable insight to fiscal management, institutional efficiency, and sustainable growth within the United Nations.

Expressing confidence in the ambassador’s ability to excel in the role, Tinubu said Ibrahim’s commitment to excellence would justify Nigeria’s confidence in him and further strengthen the country’s representation at the global body.

The President concluded by congratulating Ambassador Ibrahim on the achievement and the trust reposed in him by member states of the United Nations.

The Fifth Committee of the UN General Assembly is responsible for administrative and budgetary matters and plays a critical role in overseeing the organization’s financial management and resource allocation.
