The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans to stage a nationwide protest over the abduction of teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde, said the protest would hold on Monday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to demand urgent action from government and security agencies.

He said the student body had begun mobilising members and allied groups across the country, describing the continued captivity of the victims as painful and unacceptable.

According to him, the protest became necessary after the abducted teachers and students spent about two weeks in captivity without significant progress in rescue efforts.

“Enough is enough. Nigerian students can no longer remain silent while innocent pupils and teachers remain in the hands of kidnappers,” he said.

The planned demonstration follows growing outrage over rising insecurity and attacks on schools in parts of the country.

Gunmen had attacked schools in Ogbomoso area of Oyo State, abducting several pupils, students, and teachers, while at least one teacher was reportedly killed during the incident.

NANS called on the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of all victims and improve security around schools.
