Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the verge of Premier League relegation following a heavy 3-0 defeat to Leeds United, a result that significantly boosts the visitors’ survival hopes.

First-half goals from James Justin and Noah Okafor within a three-minute spell put Leeds firmly in control, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealed the victory late on. The defeat marks Wolves’ 22nd loss of a difficult campaign, leaving their eight-year stay in the top flight hanging by a thread.

Despite a mid-season managerial change, with Rob Edwards replacing Vitor Pereira, Wolves have been unable to recover from a disastrous start. Although there were brief signs of improvement—including wins over Aston Villa and Liverpool—their inconsistency has ultimately proven costly.

Leeds, managed by Daniel Farke, delivered a clinical performance at Elland Road. Justin opened the scoring with a spectacular overhead kick after an initial save by Dan Bentley, while Okafor doubled the lead moments later with a composed finish. Wolves showed some improvement after the break, but failed to convert their chances.

Calvert-Lewin added gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time, converting from the penalty spot after being fouled in the box. The result lifts Leeds further clear of the relegation zone and edges them closer to securing Premier League safety.

Elsewhere, pressure intensified on Eddie Howe as Newcastle United suffered a 2-1 home defeat to AFC Bournemouth.

Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring for Bournemouth before William Osula equalised. However, a late winner from Adrien Truffert secured all three points for the visitors, extending Newcastle’s poor run to four consecutive league defeats.

Following the match, Howe admitted results have fallen below expectations but insisted he retains confidence in his abilities. Newcastle, currently on 42 points, are not yet mathematically safe from relegation and face mounting pressure as the season enters its final stages.
