Napoli were booed off by their home supporters after suffering a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Lazio, a result that moves Inter Milan closer to securing the Serie A title.

Goals from Matteo Cancellieri and Toma Basic sealed a comfortable win for Lazio, who could have extended their lead further but for missed chances, including a saved penalty. The defeat marked Napoli’s first home loss of the league season and left their title hopes hanging by a thread.

Inter, who defeated Cagliari earlier, now sit 12 points clear of Napoli with five games remaining. They could clinch the title next weekend with a win over Torino, provided Napoli fail to beat Cremonese.

Lazio took control early, with Cancellieri opening the scoring in the sixth minute after a well-worked move. The visitors missed a chance to double their advantage before halftime when Mattia Zaccagni saw his penalty saved by Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.

However, Lazio sealed the victory in the second half when Basic capitalised on a loose ball to fire home. The win strengthens Lazio’s push for European qualification.

Elsewhere, Parma boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 victory over Udinese, thanks to a decisive goal from Nesta Elphege, which effectively secures their place in Serie A for another season.
