Tottenham Hotspur were left frustrated after surrendering a late lead to draw 2-2 with Brighton & Hove Albion in an entertaining Premier League clash in North London.

The match, dubbed the “Roberto De Zerbi derby,” saw Spurs continue their search for a first league win of 2026 amid growing relegation concerns. Despite injuries—including the season-ending absence of Cristian Romero—there were positives with the return of Rodrigo Bentancur and James Maddison to the squad.

After a quiet start, Spurs thought they had a penalty when Destiny Udogie went down under pressure from Yakuba Minteh, but the referee waved away appeals. Moments later, Brighton nearly scored through Danny Welbeck, only for Micky van de Ven to make a dramatic goal-line intervention.

Spurs eventually took the lead through Pedro Porro, who headed home from a pinpoint delivery by Xavi Simons. The hosts nearly doubled their advantage soon after, but Simons struck the post and Brighton capitalised just before halftime. Kaoru Mitoma equalised with a superb volley to make it 1-1 at the break.

The second half remained tightly contested until Simons restored Spurs’ lead with a stunning strike after a defensive error by Brighton. However, the advantage proved short-lived. Defensive lapses allowed Jan Paul van Hecke to win possession and set up Georginio Rutter, who calmly finished to level the score at 2-2.

Spurs will rue missed opportunities and defensive mistakes after failing to secure all three points, despite being the better side for significant periods. The result extends their winless run and leaves their Premier League survival hopes hanging in the balance.
