A devastating auto crash on the Ore-Lagos highway at Onipetsi, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has resulted in the deaths of 28 passengers, who were burnt beyond recognition.

The incident, which occurred at Mile 49, was confirmed by Samuel Ibitoye, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). According to Ibitoye, two survivors are currently receiving treatment for severe injuries at a nearby hospital.

The tragic accident was caused by a head-on collision between two vehicles, which occurred due to excessive speeding and traffic violations. Of the 30 passengers involved, 28 tragically lost their lives, while two remain in critical condition.

Ibitoye expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, emphasizing that reckless driving and speeding are significant contributors to such crashes. He urged drivers to exercise caution, patience, and adhere to road safety rules to prevent further tragedies. He also called on passengers to play an active role in ensuring their safety by cautioning drivers against dangerous driving behaviors.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the General Hospital in Ore, while the two survivors are being treated for their injuries. Ibitoye assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to uncover further details about the cause of the crash.

“Every driver has a duty to transport passengers safely to their destinations—not to put them in harm’s way,” he said, stressing the importance of safe driving and public participation in road safety efforts.
