The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said it distributed relief materials to 6,000 displaced persons in Isghe and other communities in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno.

This is contained in a statement by NEMA’s Press Officer, Mr Manzo Ezekiel, on Monday in Abuja.

The the displacement is caused by persistent attacks by Boko Haram insurgents.

The communities came under attack recently, during which many lives were lost with most of the survivors fleeing to neighbouring Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa.
The statement stated that the incidents happened a few days after similar attacks on Konduga and Bama local government areas of Borno.
According to the statement, the Deputy Governor of Adamawa, Mr Bala Ngillari, commended NEMA for its prompt response.

He said the response was bringing succour through the delivery of relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Ngillari also praised NEMA’s continued response to emergency situations in the area.

Ngillari said he sympathised with the IDPs and assured them of the state government’s support.

He said that the various governments would find a lasting solution to the security challenges in the areas.

Earlier, NEMA’s North East Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Kanar , said the materials were approved by the agency’s Director-General, Alhaji Mohammed Sani-Sidi, to ameliorate the suffering of the people.

The items distributed included bags of rice, beans, millets, children foods, clothing, mattresses and mats.
