Ohaneze Ndigbo, the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation, has set up a five-man committee to harmonise the positions of the diverse groups in the area for the impending national conference.

The committee is headed by the former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo.

Briefing newsmen at the end of its meeting in Enugu on Monday, the President-General of the organisation, Chief Gary Igariwey, said the committee had four days to present its report.

The president-general said the committee would come up with a conclusive document to guide the zone at the forth coming conference.

According to him, the final positions of the Igbo for the conference will be released in the next one week.

He promised full representation of members of other Igbo organisations at the conference.

“We are here today to rub minds with all the other Igbo major organisations to harmonise on the position for the conference.

“The idea is to make sure that we have an all inclusive position, so that we can speak with one voice. They have four days to harmonise these positions.

“Some of the positions are identical. They are just going to fine tune the language. They are going to make sure that when we speak, we will speak with a consensus.

“Within the next one week, we will call them together again to show them our final presentation. We will still be open to other inputs. We believe in working with all Igbo organisations,’’ he said.

On the alleged leadership crisis in Ohaneze, Igariwey said the organisation had yet to receive any document contesting its leadership.

“There is no leadership crisis in Ohaneze. This executive was properly elected for a four-year tenure, attended by past presidents-general.

“This executive does not have any case in any court in this country,’’ the president-general said.

The meeting was attended by a one-time governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, traditional rulers and other stakeholders from the zone.
