A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced four men to death by hanging for their roles in the June 5, 2022 terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Emeka Nwite found Abdulmalik Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, and Abdulhaleem Idris guilty on all nine counts brought against them by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The court subsequently sentenced the four convicts to death by hanging.

However, the fifth defendant, Momoh Otuho Abubakar, was discharged and acquitted after the court found insufficient evidence to sustain the charges against him.

The Owo church attack, which occurred during a Sunday service on June 5, 2022, left dozens of worshippers dead and several others injured, triggering nationwide outrage and condemnation.

More details are expected later.
