Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has assured Nigerians that the country’s security challenges will be overcome through the combined efforts of the Federal Government, security agencies, and international partners.
Speaking during her first official state visit to Ekiti State on Saturday, Senator Tinubu expressed confidence that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working diligently to address insecurity across the country.
Addressing members of the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers’ Council at the Government House in Ado-Ekiti, the First Lady described the nation’s security situation as deeply troubling but maintained that significant efforts are being made to tackle the challenge.
“The issues of insecurity are highly disheartening,” she said, adding that several countries, including the United States and France, are collaborating with Nigeria in addressing security concerns.
According to her, some of the information regarding ongoing security operations remains classified, but she assured Nigerians that international support is being provided to strengthen efforts against criminal activities.
“Nigeria is too great to be intimidated,” she said, noting that the country’s vast resources and potential make it a nation capable of overcoming its present difficulties.
The First Lady urged Nigerians, particularly women, to remain prayerful and hopeful, expressing confidence that the current challenges facing the nation would soon come to an end.
“We cannot give up on Nigeria,” she declared, emphasizing the need for unity, resilience, and faith in the country’s future.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Ekiti Traditional Rulers’ Council, Oba Adu Adejimi Alagbado, commended President Tinubu for policies and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
The monarch expressed confidence in the President’s leadership, recalling his achievements as governor of Lagos State. However, he called for more decisive action to address rising incidents of kidnapping and insecurity in Ekiti and other parts of the country.
As part of her visit, Senator Tinubu distributed a N100 million Business Recapitalisation Grant to 2,000 women petty traders in Ekiti State, with each beneficiary receiving N50,000.
She said the intervention was designed to support women-owned businesses, strengthen household incomes, and contribute to economic growth in the state.
The First Lady was accompanied by Nana Shettima, APC National Women Leader Mary Alile Idele, and Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.
During the event, she and other political leaders canvassed support for a second term for Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the state’s forthcoming governorship election, while also urging support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The wife of the governor, Olayemi Oyebanji, alongside other governors’ wives and political stakeholders, also encouraged residents to back the incumbent administration.
Senator Tinubu highlighted several projects implemented in Ekiti State under her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), including annual scholarships worth N1 million and laptop support for students from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, donation of 10,000 exercise books to public schools, bursary awards and postgraduate scholarships, the establishment of environmental clubs in schools, and the distribution of 10,000 sanitary pad packs to schoolgirls under the “Flow with Confidence” programme.
She also announced a N200 million cash reward for the best male and female graduating students of Ekiti State University following the commissioning of the TETFund-sponsored ICT Experience Centre during her visit.
