England striker Tammy Abraham has completed an £18.25 million move back to Aston Villa, returning to the Premier League from Turkish side Besiktas.

The 28-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Villa, marking his first spell in English football since leaving Chelsea for Roma in 2021. Abraham previously spent the 2018–19 season on loan at Villa, where his goals helped the club secure promotion from the Championship.

Abraham had been on loan at Besiktas from Roma, but the Turkish club activated their £11 million purchase option earlier this week. Aston Villa then agreed a deal worth 21 million euros (£18.25m) to bring the striker back to England.

Villa manager Unai Emery has been keen to strengthen his attacking options to support Ollie Watkins, with Abraham a long-term target. The forward could make his debut against Brentford on Sunday but is not eligible for Villa’s Europa League clash with Red Bull Salzburg.

As part of the agreement, teenage midfielder Yasin Ozcan will join Besiktas.

Abraham enjoyed a successful spell in Turkey, scoring 12 goals in 24 appearances, following earlier stints with Roma and AC Milan. His return to the Premier League is also believed to be driven by a desire to revive his England national team prospects ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Aston Villa currently sit third in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Arsenal.
