Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to the College of Nursing Sciences, Oluyoro, Ibadan, as part of his commitment to supporting healthcare education in Nigeria.
Obi made the donation during a visit to the institution after attending the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church.
Addressing the management and students, Obi reaffirmed his belief that education remains one of the strongest pillars for national development, particularly in the healthcare sector, where the training of skilled professionals is critical to improving healthcare delivery.
He said the donation was in fulfilment of an earlier promise to continue supporting the institution in its efforts to train future nurses and other healthcare professionals.
According to him, investing in education is an investment in Nigeria’s future, adding that strengthening institutions responsible for producing qualified healthcare workers is essential for the country’s development.
Obi also charged the students to remain committed to their studies, stressing that nurses play a vital role in the healthcare system through their skills, compassion and dedication.
He urged them to strive for excellence, uphold the highest standards of professionalism and serve as worthy ambassadors of Nigeria wherever they find themselves.
The former Anambra State governor maintained that sustained investment in education and human capital development remains key to building a better Nigeria, expressing optimism that “a new Nigeria is possible.”
