Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi loses father in road accident

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has lost his father, Sunday Ndidi, who died on Tuesday following a road accident in Delta State.

Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, was involved in a crash in Umunede and was rushed to a hospital in Agbor, where he was later confirmed dead.

The news was announced by Ndidi’s Turkish club, Beşiktaş, which expressed condolences to the midfielder and his family.

“May Allah have mercy on the deceased. We offer our heartfelt condolences to our footballer Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and loved ones,” the club said in a statement shared on X.

Ndidi recently assumed the captaincy of the Super Eagles, succeeding William Troost-Ekong. He led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he also scored his first goal for the national team.

Tributes and messages of condolence have continued to pour in from fans, teammates, and members of the Nigerian football community.
