The Nigerian Navy has appointed Captain Abiodun Folorunsho as its new Director of Naval Information and official spokesperson.
The appointment was approved by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, with Captain Folorunsho assuming duty on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
He took over from Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, who has been redeployed to a higher strategic role as Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, the Navy’s premier operational base.
Captain Folorunsho was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in September 2003 after graduating from the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 50 Regular Course. He holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering, War Studies (Maritime), International Affairs and Defence Studies, Energy Management, and National Security and Strategic Studies from military and maritime institutions in Nigeria and abroad.
He has attended several professional courses locally and internationally and has served in various command, operational, and staff roles, including duties under Operation SAFE HAVEN, Military Liaison Officer at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, and Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.
Until his appointment, he served as Chief Instructor in the Department of Maritime Warfare at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, and later as Assistant Director, Plans/CNS Directive, at the Naval Headquarters.
