FC Augsburg held Bayern Munich to a 2-2 draw in a thrilling Bundesliga encounter at the WWK Arena on Saturday, with Robin Fellhauer making history by scoring the fastest goal in the competition’s history.

Fellhauer stunned the visitors just eight seconds after kick-off, capitalising on a costly mistake by Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to give Augsburg an early lead.

After Bayern kicked off, the ball was played back to Neuer, whose attempted pass was intercepted by Fellhauer. The Augsburg midfielder calmly finished into the net, setting a new Bundesliga record.

The league confirmed that the goal surpassed the previous record of nine seconds, jointly held by Karim Bellarabi, who scored for Bayer Leverkusen in the 2014/15 season, and Kevin Volland, who achieved the same feat for Hoffenheim in 2015/16.

Interestingly, Volland’s record-equalling goal had also come against Neuer while the goalkeeper was playing for Bayern.

Bayern appeared to respond through Luis Díaz, but his effort was ruled out following a video assistant referee review in the 55th minute.

The visitors eventually drew level through I. Saibari in the 51st minute, according to the supplied match timeline, before R. Duarte Ribeiro restored Augsburg’s advantage to make it 2-1 in the 64th minute.

Bayern fought back again, with N. Brown scoring in the 80th minute to secure a share of the points.

The result denied Bayern victory despite their comeback efforts, while Augsburg celebrated a memorable performance highlighted by Fellhauer’s record-breaking strike.
