The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescued seven kidnap victims after raiding a kidnappers’ hideout in Ushafa, Abuja.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said a distress call was received on December 5 reporting an attack and abduction in the community.
A joint security team comprising the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Army, and the DSS launched a coordinated search on December 6. Acting on intelligence, they traced the suspects through Mpape and into the Kagarko area of Kaduna State.
The kidnappers opened fire upon sighting security operatives, but were overpowered, leading to the rescue of one victim.
The team pursued the criminals for over seven hours across difficult terrain before locating their camp in Kweri Forest, Kaduna State. Another exchange of gunfire forced the abductors to flee, enabling security forces to free six more victims.
All rescued persons were taken to the hospital and are currently stable.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, commended the operatives and ordered additional deployments in vulnerable corridors. The Command urged hospitals to report anyone seeking treatment for suspicious injuries to police.
