Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says Nigerians owe no one an apology for seeking help from the international community to address the country’s worsening insecurity.
Speaking at the Plateau Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival in Jos on Friday night, Obasanjo warned that lives are being lost daily across religious and ethnic lines and stressed the need for modern technology in fighting crime.
“In these days of technology, nobody should be able to hide after committing a crime,” he said. “Every Nigerian life matters—Christian, Muslim, or otherwise. Nigerians are being killed; this must stop.”
He added that if local efforts fall short, the country has a right to seek international partnerships to protect its citizens.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, also addressed the gathering, expressing confidence that Nigeria would overcome its challenges. “Those who want Nigeria destroyed will not succeed,” he said, praying for wisdom and strength for leaders at all levels.
Mutfwang said the annual carol event was established to promote unity in the state through worship, noting that Plateau citizens continue to put aside denominational differences to celebrate together.
The event featured gospel ministrations by Buchi, Uche Etiaba, Pastor Chingtok, and several interdenominational choirs.
