Veteran Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has spoken about how his hit song African Queen brought him both fame and unexpected challenges.
Speaking on an entertainment programme that went viral on Sunday, the award-winning artiste said the 2004 track gave him global recognition but also created pressures he did not anticipate.
“That song has been a huge blessing, but e don turn problem join for me,” he said. “Nevertheless, I’m grateful for everything.”
2Baba noted that while African Queen remains the signature song many fans associate with him, he has released several other impactful tracks over the years.
Released as part of his debut solo album Face 2 Face, the song propelled 2Baba to continental and international acclaim, earning him awards from BET, MTV Europe and MOBO, and establishing him as a key figure in Afrobeats.
However, the song has continued to attract controversy. His former bandmate, Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo (Blackface), has repeatedly accused him of stealing the track, claims 2Baba has consistently rejected, insisting it originated during their time together in Plantashun Boiz.
The dispute resurfaced earlier this year after African Queen was named the “Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time” by Billboard.
