The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions on key routes in Victoria Island ahead of the Electric Powerboat Racing Championship (E1 Series), scheduled to take place from Saturday, October 4, to Sunday, October 5, 2025.
The event, which will be Africa’s first electric powerboat race, will be held on the Lagos Inland Waterways by Victoria Island Lagoon. To ensure smooth traffic flow and safety during the championship, certain roads will be closed, and alternative routes have been provided for motorists.
According to the government, there will be a total road closure at 1st Lekki Junction inward Ozumba Mbadiwe during the event. Motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes:
Ajah to Lekki motorists should make a U-turn at Lekki 1st Junction by the pedestrian bridge to link Yesufu Abiodun, Maroko Police Station, City of David, and Ligali Ayorinde, connecting Ajose Adeogun to Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and Onikan.
Ajah to CMS motorists may take Abraham Adesanya to Ogonbo Road, then Okun Ajah Road, linking Coastal Road to Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and Onikan.
Motorists from Lekki to Ikoyi/Mainland can take Admiralty Way to Lekki Link Bridge, then Alexander Road, Bourdillon Way, Gerrard Road, and Osborne Road.
Lekki to CMS motorists can connect Yesufu Abiodun to Oniru Road, then Aboyade Cole Road to Ligali Ayorinde, Eko Hotel Roundabout, and Ahmadu Bello Way.
Motorists from CMS/Independence Bridge and Ozumba Mbadiwe heading towards Lekki-Epe Expressway will enjoy free flow of traffic to Ajah and surrounding areas.
The government urged residents and road users to comply with traffic officers’ directives during the period and cooperate to ensure a successful hosting of the international sporting event.
