A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has set aside both the interim and final forfeiture orders previously granted against Goodwill Private Schools Ltd, located in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The court ruled that the forfeiture—initially secured by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)—was made in error and lacked sufficient legal basis. The judgment effectively nullifies the earlier orders that sought to permanently confiscate the school’s property on allegations of proceeds linked to unlawful activities.

Goodwill Private Schools had challenged the forfeiture, insisting that the property was legitimately acquired and had no connection to any criminal conduct. After reviewing the submissions, the court agreed with the school’s position, ruling that the EFCC failed to provide compelling evidence to justify the confiscation.

This judgment marks a significant legal victory for Goodwill Private Schools Ltd and sets a precedent on asset forfeiture cases involving educational institutions.
