Paris Saint-Germain produced a sensational attacking display to thrash Villarreal 6-0 away from home on Tuesday night, scoring four goals within the opening 17 minutes of their Champions League encounter.

The reigning European champions overwhelmed the Spanish side at the Estadio de la Cerámica, with their ruthless finishing exposing serious defensive weaknesses in the home team.

PSG took the lead in the ninth minute through Joao Neves, who fired home from close range after Villarreal failed to deal with a corner.

The visitors doubled their advantage just three minutes later when goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi made a costly error while attempting to play out from the back. PSG capitalised on the mistake, with Desire Doue finishing off the move.

Villarreal’s defensive troubles continued as Senny Mayulu made it 3-0 in the 13th minute. The French side regained possession high up the pitch before Mayulu drove his effort past Gulacsi.

Fabian Ruiz added a fourth in the 17th minute, collecting the ball inside the penalty area before drilling a powerful finish inside the near post.

The devastating start prompted some Villarreal supporters to leave the stadium before the 20th minute, as the hosts struggled to cope with PSG’s attacking intensity.

Luis Enrique’s side continued their dominance after the interval, with Ruiz grabbing his second goal of the night in the 50th minute.

The Spain international showed excellent composure, using a deft touch to leave his marker on the ground before calmly slotting the ball past Gulacsi.

Seventeen-year-old David Boly completed the rout in the 78th minute, surging forward down the flank before his effort deflected off a Villarreal defender and found its way into the net.

The comprehensive victory extended PSG’s impressive Champions League scoring record, taking their tally to 20 goals in their first four matches of the competition.

PSG also maintained their perfect record in the league phase, moving to the top of the standings with 12 points from four matches.

They will welcome Roma in their next Champions League fixture on November 25.

Villarreal, meanwhile, have managed just one victory in the competition and will travel to Slavia Prague on the same date as they seek to recover from the humiliating defeat.
