Manchester United are reportedly set to retain Michael Carrick as manager for their next fixture against AS Roma despite Saturday’s disappointing 2-0 Premier League defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Carrick is facing mounting pressure following United’s poor start to the season, having managed just two victories in their first 13 matches across all competitions.
The 45-year-old was under pressure to deliver a positive response against Chelsea, and United initially showed signs of improvement during the first half.
However, their performance deteriorated after the break, with defender Lisandro Martinez sent off for receiving a second yellow card following a reckless challenge on Wesley Fofana.
The incident also resulted in a penalty, which Cole Palmer calmly converted to put Chelsea 2-0 ahead and secure all three points for the hosts.
According to reports by talkSPORT, Manchester United are expected to keep Carrick in charge for their Champions League encounter against Roma on Tuesday, November 3.
The club are reportedly unwilling to make an immediate decision on his future, with a final assessment expected during the November international break.
Several high-profile managers have already been linked with the possibility of replacing Carrick should United decide to make a change.
They include former Tottenham and Napoli manager Antonio Conte, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann and Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe.
With United struggling for consistency and results, the upcoming fixtures could prove crucial in determining Carrick’s long-term future at Old Trafford.
