Six contacts of Nigeria’s confirmed Ebola case are expected to leave a quarantine facility on Sunday after completing the mandatory 21-day monitoring period without developing symptoms of the disease.

The Incident Manager for Ebola at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Dr Odianosen Ehiakhamen, disclosed this on Saturday during an interview on NTA News.

Ehiakhamen said the six individuals, who had been under observation since coming in contact with the index case, had remained symptom-free throughout the 21-day period.

The group reportedly includes two domestic staff members and the driver of the confirmed Ebola patient.

Nigeria recorded its first imported case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) on October 20, 2026, involving a 42-year-old woman who arrived in Abuja from Uganda.

The patient, who tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, was subsequently evacuated to Switzerland for further medical treatment.

Following confirmation of the case, the NCDC, in collaboration with relevant health authorities, intensified contact tracing, surveillance and isolation measures to prevent further spread of the disease.

Individuals considered to have been at risk of exposure, including healthcare workers and domestic staff, were placed under close observation for 21 days, the recognised incubation period for Ebola.

The planned discharge of the six contacts follows the completion of their monitoring period without any reported symptoms.
