Erling Haaland scored a dramatic late winner as Norway defeated Ivory Coast 2-1 on Tuesday to book their place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Manchester City striker struck in the 86th minute, taking his tally for the tournament to five goals and sealing Norway’s place in the next round, where they will face Brazil on Sunday.

Norway took the lead in the 36th minute through Antonio Nusa, who finished off a well-worked move to put his side ahead before halftime.

Ivory Coast fought back in the second half and drew level in the 74th minute when Amad Diallo found the net, setting up a tense finish.

With extra time looming, Haaland broke through the Ivorian defence and calmly slotted home the winner four minutes from time, sparking wild celebrations among the Norwegian players and supporters.

The victory continued Norway’s impressive World Cup campaign, with fans once again celebrating using the team’s trademark “Viking Row” celebration, which has become a symbol of the nation’s run at the tournament.

Norway will now turn their attention to a heavyweight Round of 16 clash against five-time champions Brazil as they seek to continue their remarkable World Cup journey.
