Morocco came from behind twice to defeat Haiti 4-2 in an entertaining Group C clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, securing a place in the knockout stage as group runners-up behind Brazil.
Haiti stunned the Atlas Lions early when a cross from Jean-Kevin Duverne was turned into the net via a deflection off Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, giving the Caribbean side their first World Cup goal since 1974.
Morocco responded through captain Achraf Hakimi, who pounced on a rebound to level the score. However, Haiti restored their lead moments later when Wilson Isidor unleashed a spectacular long-range strike into the top corner.
The North Africans fought back again before halftime, with Ismael Saibari scoring his third goal of the tournament after being set up by Hakimi.
With the match tied at 2-2, Morocco increased the pressure in the second half and eventually found the breakthrough when substitute Soufiane Rahimi’s powerful effort took a deflection and flew into the net.
Rahimi later turned provider, winning possession near the byline and setting up Gessime Yassine for Morocco’s fourth goal to seal the victory.
Despite the win, Morocco finished second in Group C behind Brazil on goal difference and will now prepare for a Round of 32 clash against either the Netherlands or Japan.
Haiti, appearing at their first World Cup since 1974, exited the tournament without a point but earned praise for their spirited performances and memorable return to the global stage.
