Brazil reignited their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over Haiti in Philadelphia on Friday, moving closer to securing a place in the knockout stages.
After facing criticism for their lacklustre 1-1 draw against Morocco in their opening Group C match, the five-time world champions responded emphatically, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice and Vinicius Junior adding a third before halftime.
Brazil took control from the outset and opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. Cunha won possession in midfield and reacted quickest after Vinicius Junior’s effort was parried, turning the loose ball into the net.
The duo combined again shortly afterwards, with Vinicius threading a pass through the Haiti defence for Cunha to fire home his second goal.
Vinicius then got on the scoresheet before the break, running onto a floated pass from Lucas Paqueta and calmly finishing past goalkeeper Johny Placide.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti made several changes following the disappointing draw with Morocco, introducing Cunha in attack and bringing Danilo into the defence. The adjustments paid off as Brazil produced a far more fluid and aggressive display.
Brazil suffered a setback when Raphinha was forced off with an injury, but they remained firmly in control throughout the contest.
Haiti, making their first World Cup appearance since 1974, nearly scored their first tournament goal in 52 years when Ricardo Ade’s header forced a fine save from Alisson Becker early in the second half. However, opportunities were scarce against a disciplined Brazilian side.
The introduction of 19-year-old Endrick drew loud cheers from Brazilian supporters, while substitute Gabriel Martinelli came close to adding a fourth goal after striking the crossbar.
Alisson also made two late saves to secure Brazil’s first clean sheet in seven matches.
The victory leaves Brazil level with Morocco at the top of Group C but ahead on goal difference. Brazil will face Scotland in their final group match on June 24 in Miami, while Haiti, already eliminated as the first team to exit the tournament, will conclude their campaign against Morocco in Atlanta.
