Amaechi Will Lose Even in His Polling Unit in 2027, Says NDC Media Director

The Director of New Media and Strategic Communications of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Theo Abu, has dismissed the electoral prospects of former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, ahead of the 2027 general election.

Abu stated that Amaechi and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would suffer defeat in Rivers State, insisting that the former governor would be unable to secure victory even in his own polling unit.

He made the remarks in a post on X on Monday while reacting to the ADC’s announcement naming Amaechi as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election.

According to Abu, the NDC remains confident of its electoral strength and believes it will outperform both the ADC and Amaechi in Rivers State.

“I have learned that the ADC has picked Rotimi Amaechi as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election,” Abu wrote.

“As far as I know, the NDC will defeat both the ADC and Amaechi in his polling unit in Rivers State in 2027. Amaechi stands no chance,” he declared.

His comments came shortly after the ADC formally unveiled Amaechi as its vice-presidential candidate in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

The party said Amaechi’s emergence followed extensive consultations involving party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, as well as representatives from the six geopolitical zones.

According to the ADC, Amaechi earned widespread support after emerging runner-up in the party’s presidential primary and was subsequently selected to join Atiku on the party’s ticket for the 2027 presidential election.

The party described the Atiku-Amaechi alliance as a combination of experience, national appeal and leadership capacity, arguing that both politicians possess the credentials needed to address Nigeria’s economic, security and governance challenges.

It also highlighted Amaechi’s political résumé, noting that he previously served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The ADC further expressed confidence that Amaechi’s influence across the South-South and other parts of Southern Nigeria would strengthen its campaign and improve its chances ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

However, Abu’s remarks underscore the growing rivalry among political parties as consultations, alliances and strategic realignments intensify ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 presidential race.
