Despite a heavy downpour, members of the Take-It-Back Movement on Monday staged a protest at the Oyo State Government House in Ibadan, demanding urgent government intervention over rising insecurity and the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
The protesters, who initially gathered at Mokola Roundabout, marched through major streets of the state capital before arriving at the Government House. Undeterred by the rain, they carried placards and chanted solidarity songs as they called on authorities to take decisive steps to curb kidnappings and protect residents.
According to the demonstrators, the worsening security situation in parts of the state has left communities living in fear, particularly following the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers by armed men in Oriire LGA.
Placards displayed during the protest bore messages such as “Security for all, not for a few,” “End kidnapping in Oyo State now,” “Safer roads and communities now,” and “Protect farmers, traders and students.”
The protesters maintained that their action was aimed at drawing attention to the plight of affected families and pressing the government to strengthen security measures across vulnerable communities.
The demonstration comes amid growing public concern over the spate of kidnappings and attacks in Oyo State, especially in rural areas where residents have repeatedly called for improved security presence.
