Officers and members of the Imo Civil Guard have been charged to champion the ‘Imo my Pride’ project aimed at making Owerri, the capital city more beautiful, clean and organized.
Governor Rochas Okorocha gave the charge at a meeting with the command at the Government House, Owerri.
Addressing the over one thousand Imo Civil Guard, the State Governor reminded them of the need to see their job of promoting the sanity of the environment as an honour that should be guided with pride.
He warned the officers and men against getting involved in bribery and corruption but urged them to be civil in their action while partnering with every citizen to make the State better.
Enumerating some of the responsibilities of the Civil Guard, Owelle Okorocha charged them to ensure that markets are organized and shanties removed from the capital city, ensure that waste materials are dumped only in designated places as well as encourage residents to keep their surroundings clean and beautiful while beggars and street urchins must be kept off the streets of Owerri.
Governor Okorocha advised the Command to refrain from physical confrontation with the people as mobile police men will be attached to them for intervention.
He further assured them that government would provide the necessary logistics to facilitate their job while Commissioners will be responsible for supervising the respective zones/units of the Command.
Contributing, the Director General, Youth Development and Empowerment Agency, Hon. Chike Orjiakor explained that the Command is divided into eight (8) functional zones for effective implementation of the Imo my Pride project.
