Top leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), including its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, converged on Abuja on Monday as the party intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The gathering, which featured a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, brought together party chieftains, candidates and supporters from different parts of the country to deliberate on campaign strategies and strengthen the party’s nationwide mobilisation efforts.
The meeting formed part of a series of activities scheduled by the NDC, including the inauguration of its National Campaign Council, the opening of its newly acquired national secretariat in Abuja, and the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates contesting various elective positions.
The certificates are intended for the party’s candidates for the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and state assembly elections.
A celebratory dinner was also scheduled to round off the day’s activities.
The party said the programme was designed to consolidate its structures and prepare its candidates and supporters for the forthcoming elections.
NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the party would use its third NEC session to unveil the composition of its National Campaign Council and present a statement of account.
He described the planned financial disclosure as part of the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
The participation of Obi, Kwankwaso and Dickson underscored the significance of the meeting as the party seeks to establish a formidable political structure ahead of the 2027 polls.
The NDC is expected to use the campaign council to coordinate its activities, mobilise voters and strengthen its presence across the country as political parties prepare for the next general elections.
