The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested nine suspects in Nigeria over alleged involvement in cybercrime and scam centre operations, with 53 electronic devices seized in connection with the investigation.
FBI Director, Kash Patel, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, October 26, 2026, noting that investigators had also identified $11 million in potentially freezable funds across multiple countries.
According to Patel, the suspects allegedly operated scam centres in Nigeria, targeting innocent victims, stealing their life savings and conducting fraudulent activities across international borders.
He said the suspects appeared to believe they could evade law enforcement because of the cross-border nature of their operations.
“They’re wrong,” Patel declared, stressing that the FBI and its partners would pursue individuals involved in such criminal activities.
The FBI director also commended Nigerian law enforcement agencies and their partners in London for their cooperation in the operation.
The arrests underscore ongoing international efforts to combat cybercrime and dismantle criminal networks that exploit victims across national boundaries.
However, the statement did not disclose the identities of the suspects, the specific locations of the alleged scam centres in Nigeria or the nature of the cybercrime offences under investigation.
