Canadian rapper Drake has won more than ₦1.5 billion after Canada defeated South Africa 1-0 in their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash, making good on his massive ₦1.2 billion wager on the hosts.

Before the match, Drake revealed on social media that he had staked $770,000 (about ₦1.2 billion) on Canada to beat South Africa through the betting platform Stake. The bet carried a potential payout of $1,001,000 (about ₦1.57 billion) if Canada secured victory.

Explaining the reason behind the high-profile wager, Drake said South African DJ Black Coffee had challenged him.

> “Black Coffee was chirping in the DM. I had to raise my stakes,” Drake wrote.

Canada justified Drake’s confidence with a dramatic 1-0 victory, sealing their place in the Round of 16. Midfielder Stephen Eustáquio scored the decisive goal in second-half stoppage time after a tightly contested encounter.

The victory sent Canada into the last 16 of the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, while South Africa exited the tournament after an impressive campaign.

Drake’s winning bet means he will receive a total payout of about ₦1.57 billion, including his original stake, resulting in a profit of roughly ₦365 million.

Canada and South Africa both reached the knockout stage after strong performances in the group phase. Playing in front of their home fans as one of the tournament’s co-hosts, Canada continued their historic run with a dramatic late victory, keeping alive hopes of a deep World Cup campaign while also handing Drake one of his biggest betting wins in recent years.
