Six people, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving a military gun truck and a commercial bus in Adamawa State.

The crash occurred on Wednesday along the Narehi axis in Girei Local Government Area when a military vehicle travelling from Gombi to Yola collided head-on with a commercial Hummer bus heading from Yola to Mubi.

According to the Adamawa State Police Command, the impact caused the commercial bus to overturn and burst into flames, trapping its occupants.

Police spokesman, Suleiman Nguroje, said all five passengers aboard the bus were burnt beyond recognition, while a military personnel travelling in the gun truck also died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Preliminary identification showed that four of the deceased passengers were serving NYSC members posted to Adamawa State. Two of them were identified as Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to establish the identities of the remaining victims and contact their families.

The bodies of the deceased have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Yola.

Reacting to the tragedy, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State expressed condolences to the families of the victims, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC and all others affected by the incident.

Authorities said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
