Governor Siminalayi Fubara has declared that no human being deserves worship, stressing that only God holds ultimate authority over his life and political journey.

Speaking amid the lingering political tension in Rivers State, Fubara acknowledged the role played by his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in his emergence as governor, but insisted that such support does not make him answerable to any individual on earth.

According to the governor, there is nothing wrong with helping others, noting that God often uses men and women to fulfil divine purposes.

“There’s nothing wrong in one helping anyone, but nobody takes the place of God in any situation,” Fubara said. “God can even bring your enemy to open a door for you. God will not come down from heaven but will pass through a man or woman to achieve His purpose.”

The governor added that while he appreciates the contributions of political leaders, especially Wike, to his rise to power, he would not “worship a human being.”

“We do appreciate the roles our leaders, more especially the immediate past governor, played in me becoming governor, but that is not enough for me to worship a human being. I can’t do that,” he stated.

Fubara further declared that he is accountable only to God, saying, “If that is my sin, let me answer it on the last day in heaven, not on earth. I’m not answerable to anybody on earth.”

The comments are expected to further fuel speculations of a deepening political divide between the governor and Wike, whose relationship has remained strained since the beginning of Fubara’s administration.
