The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said it is yet to decide on the zoning of its presidential ticket for the 2027 election.

Speaking on a television programme, the party’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that discussions on zoning are ongoing but the party will not be pressured into making a premature decision.

“We will not be blackmailed into taking an early position. Zoning is under consideration, and consultations are ongoing, but we will decide at the appropriate time,” he said.

His comments come as political parties begin early preparations for the 2027 elections. While the Labour Party has already zoned its ticket to the southern region, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its consensus candidate.

Abdullahi also dismissed claims that the ADC is being positioned as a platform for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to pursue his presidential ambition.

He insisted that the party remains open to all aspirants and is not tied to any individual, including Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi.

Addressing concerns over defections to the APC, the ADC spokesman accused the ruling party of weakening opposition forces, urging like-minded groups to unite in order to strengthen democracy.
