Police Council approves Disu’s appointment as Inspector-General

The National Police Council has approved the appointment of Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that the endorsement was unanimous.

The meeting, held at the State House in Abuja, was convened in line with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, which mandates the Council to consider and approve the appointment of the IGP.

The Council is chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and comprises the 36 state governors, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, and the Inspector-General of Police.

Among those in attendance were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Didi Walson-Jack, alongside several state governors and ministers.

With the Council’s approval, Disu’s appointment as Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police is now formally confirmed.
