The People’s Organisation for Mobilisation and Reorientation (POMR) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of resorting to intimidation amid what it described as growing electoral challenges in Enugu State, calling for an immediate and comprehensive investigation into alleged politically motivated killings and attacks.
The organisation also urged security agencies to investigate reports of threats and violence in the state, identify those responsible and ensure their prosecution, regardless of their political affiliation or position.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and signed by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr, POMR condemned what it described as persistent intimidation in Enugu State, warning that violence and the loss of lives must not be used as tools for securing political advantage.
The statement, titled “As Electoral Reality Confronts a Panicky APC, Democracy Is Under Attack in Enugu State,” challenged the ruling party to present its achievements and seek the people’s mandate through the ballot box rather than intimidation.
“If the APC has accomplishments to present, it should disclose them to Nigerians. If it enjoys the people’s confidence, it should face them at the ballot box,” the organisation said.
POMR argued that violence, threats and the killing of citizens could not replace effective governance, adding that political leaders who allow fear to take the place of persuasion should be held accountable.
It expressed concern that some state governors were allegedly presiding over political violence instead of presenting their records, offering constructive ideas and seeking public support.
The organisation insisted that the reported incidents in Enugu State required an impartial investigation, warning against attempts to dismiss allegations without a thorough examination of the facts.
It called on security agencies to investigate all credible allegations of politically motivated killings, threats and attacks, and establish those who allegedly ordered, financed, facilitated or carried out the acts.
“Everyone found culpable must be prosecuted according to the law,” the statement said, adding that public office should not shield anyone from justice and that political affiliation should not determine accountability for crimes.
POMR also called on electoral and law enforcement authorities to take preventive measures against political violence, protect opposition candidates and supporters, and guarantee citizens’ freedom to participate in the democratic process without fear.
It said victims and their families deserved justice, while Nigerians were entitled to transparent answers from the authorities.
“No governor is above the law, no political party owns the state, and no political aspiration can justify the loss of even one Nigerian life,” the organisation declared.
The group further urged opposition members and supporters to resist intimidation through lawful, peaceful and democratic means, insisting that citizens must not surrender their constitutional rights in the face of threats.
Reaffirming its position, POMR said political leaders should be judged by their records, conduct and respect for the rule of law rather than their ability to deploy fear or violence.
“Nigeria deserves leaders who earn public trust through results, respect human life, and uphold the rule of law,” the statement added.
The organisation stressed that elections should remain a peaceful means of choosing leaders and that justice must not be sacrificed for political power.
The statement did not identify specific incidents, victims or individuals allegedly responsible for the reported violence.
