A former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Paul Taribo, alongside Mrs. Theresa Oxford Nwabara and over 100 supporters, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Labour Party in Abia State.

Taribo, who represented Ukwa East State Constituency in the Assembly, announced his defection at an event held in Ikwueke East Ward, Ukwa East Local Government Area.

Explaining his decision, Taribo said he was motivated by the achievements of Governor Alex Otti and his desire to contribute to the governor’s re-election in 2027. He pledged his loyalty to the Labour Party and promised to work towards strengthening the party’s presence in Ikwueke East Ward and across Ukwa East LGA.

Taribo expressed confidence in Governor Otti’s leadership style, vision and developmental agenda, as well as that of the Chairman of Ukwa East LGA, Hon. Chibunna Akara.

In his remarks, Akara described Taribo as a valuable addition to the Labour Party, noting that the party remains inclusive and open to individuals committed to development and public service. He assured the new members of a conducive political environment and urged stakeholders to intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Also speaking, the member representing Ukwa East State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, expressed confidence that the growing strength of the Labour Party in the area would ensure Governor Otti’s re-election. He added that sustained leadership would translate into increased development and improved welfare for the people of Ukwa East.
