President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to acclaimed Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and her family over the death of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi.
In a statement issued by the State House on Thursday, the President described the loss as devastating, noting that the pain of losing a child is incomparable. He said he shared in the family’s grief, drawing from his own experience of losing a loved one.
President Tinubu extended his sympathies to Ms Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and the entire family, assuring them of his prayers during what he described as a very difficult time.
He praised Adichie as a global literary icon whose works have brought inspiration, joy, and enlightenment to many people around the world. The President prayed that the family would find comfort and strength in God to bear the loss.
“My prayers are with the family,” the President said.
The condolence message was signed by President Tinubu in his capacity as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and dated January 8, 2026.
