Liverpool’s troubled season worsened on Wednesday as PSV Eindhoven stunned the Anfield crowd with a dominant 4–1 Champions League victory.
Ivan Perisic put PSV ahead from the penalty spot after Virgil van Dijk handled the ball, but Dominik Szoboszlai equalised shortly after. Despite a promising spell before half-time, Liverpool collapsed again in the second half.
Guus Til restored PSV’s lead with a well-placed finish, before Couhaib Driouech struck twice — the first after Ibrahima Konaté’s misplaced pass and the second from a late counterattack — completing a disastrous night for the Reds.
The defeat marks Liverpool’s ninth loss in 12 matches across all competitions, their worst run since the 1953–54 season. Fans booed at full-time as pressure mounted on manager Arne Slot, whose side has now conceded 10 goals in three straight defeats.
Liverpool sit 12th in the Premier League and have now lost two of their five Champions League fixtures, casting doubt on their progression to the knockout stage.
Slot described the atmosphere as “very disappointing” but urged his players to “fight really hard” to reverse their alarming decline.
