Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed confidence that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, may still regain his freedom despite Thursday’s life imprisonment verdict by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kalu said efforts toward a political solution were already underway and would now be intensified since the court process had concluded. He assured supporters that President Bola Tinubu was open to listening to appeals from Igbo leaders seeking Kanu’s release.
He appealed for calm in the South East and across the country, emphasising that all hope was not lost.
According to him, “It is now time to explore political solutions that were previously hindered because the matter was before the court. Now that the court has finished, we will intensify our request for the President’s intervention. We are sure the President is not averse to it. All hope is not lost.”
