President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, on his 65th birthday, describing him as a courageous, colourful, and consistent figure in Nigeria’s political landscape.
In a goodwill message issued on Thursday, President Tinubu said it gave him “great pleasure to celebrate Osoko himself” on the occasion of his birthday, noting that Fayose had remained a significant national figure since his first emergence as governor in 2003.
Tinubu recalled that during Fayose’s first tenure as Ekiti governor, he faced political turbulence and an eventual truncation of his term, which he attributed to the abuse of presidential powers at the time. Despite the challenges, the President said, Fayose displayed uncommon strength and embraced adversity with calmness.
The President described Fayose’s 2014 re-election as “one of the great political comebacks of our time,” adding that the former governor set a record as the first politician to defeat two incumbents in different election cycles.
“Osokomole is a man who has never lacked the courage of his convictions. We can always know where he belongs on any issue,” Tinubu said, praising his consistency, frankness, and affinity with ordinary people. He added that Fayose’s reputation as Ore Mekunnu—friend of the poor—was well earned because of his grassroots connection and retail political style.
Tinubu also highlighted Fayose’s developmental achievements during his administration, including improvements in road infrastructure, expanded access to education and healthcare, and public buildings such as the State High Court Complex and the governor’s office.
“As his elder brother, I value his support for me and my administration,” Tinubu stated, offering prayers for Fayose’s continued good health and deeper purpose in service to God and humanity.
“Happy birthday, Osokomole!” he concluded.
